LAKE PARK — An expected 300 bikers will “get their motors running” this Saturday in Lake Park for a ride to benefit the Georgia Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Da Rajun Cajun in Lake Park hosts this year’s Ride to Live event. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m., with breakfast available at 8:30 a.m. The cost per hand is $10 or three hands for $20. The ride will take place throughout South Georgia and North Florida, with stops being announced at registration. Food and drinks will be available at every stop, according to organizers.

All bikes must be back at Da Rajun Cajun by 4 p.m. to be considered for the prize money; $300 for the best hand and $200 for the worst hand. A live auction will begin at 4 p.m. followed by winner announcements, 50/50 drawing, raffle drawings, and door prizes.

The Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park has again donated the grand prize of a “Week Day Getaway for Two.” Only riders participating in the event are eligible for the grand prize.

Local bands provide entertainment. Redline will start the show off at 1 p.m. for folks not participating in the ride. The featured band, Woodard Johnson, will hit the stage at 3 p.m. returning for more fun after the business portion of the event.

Still, the main goals of Ride to Live is to raise $20,000 for cystic fibrosis research and the other is to turn the event into a day where everyone, riders and non-riders can have fun and participate.

Cystic fibrosis is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.”

In the 1950s, few children with cystic fibrosis lived to attend elementary school. Today, advances in research and medical treatments have further enhanced and extended life for children and adults with CF. Many people with the disease can now expect to live into their 30s, 40s, and beyond.
