Arson suspect indicted

By Malynda Fulton

VALDOSTA — A Valdosta woman charged with arson following a March blaze was recently indicted by a grand jury in Lowndes County Superior Court.

Chasity Worthy, 24, was taken into custody by Valdosta police March 13 after Valdosta firefighters and police arrived at 520 Charlton St., located on the corner of Charlton and Hamilton Streets, to find apartment No. 4 filled with smoke and engulfed in flames, according to Valdosta police.

Firefighters contained the fire soon after arrival; however, the apartment was severely damaged, along with some smoke damage to three adjacent apartments. No one was injured, according to Valdosta Cmdr. Brian Childress. Childress added that the fire did not appear to be accidental.

“Anytime foul play is suspected in a fire, there is a joint investigation between the police and fire departments,” Childress said. “Ultimately, we received testimony and evidence that linked the resident of the apartment to the fire.”

Upon investigation of the circumstances, Worthy, who resided at the apartment, was arrested and charged with arson, police said.

No court date has been determined at this time.

VALDOSTA — Another man arrested in connection with the Dec. 8, 2007 shooting of a man in Greer Park has been indicted by a grand jury in Lowndes County

Triveno Morrow was recently indicted on one count of aggravated assault, one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and one count of criminal gang activity, according to reports.

Morrow is the third to face charges stemming from the shooting. Larry Dewayne Jones Jr., 19, and Nicholas Stephen Hill, 20, were also recently indicted on aggravated assault, possession of a firearm and criminal gang activity.

The suspects were taken into custody approximately one week after 19-year-old Justin Emanuel Brown was shot several times.

According to Valdosta police, authorities were dispatched to the South Georgia Medical Center emergency room that Saturday at 11:49 p.m. to find Brown being treated for multiple gunshot wounds. Brown was in the area of Marette and Kingdom Streets at Greer Park when he was shot. He was able to flag down a passing motorist, who transported him to the hospital, according to reports.

After following up on various leads, authorities took the suspects into custody on aggravated assault charges, according to reports.
