VALDOSTA — Local author Nellie O. Jackson is scheduled to sign copies of her children’s book, “The Worst Day of My Life,” from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, WaldenBooks in the Valdosta Mall.
The story: Leroy thought the worst day of his life was when his mom left him with Grandma Johnson so she could go to Los Angeles to find a higher-paying job.
When Hurricane Katrina blew off the roof of the Superdome in New Orleans, that was the worst day of Leroy’s life, for he and Grandma Johnson were in the Superdome. Grandma Johnson said, “Leroy, something good always comes out of something bad.”
Jackson is a native of Florida, but now lives in Hahira. Out of her life experiences came the autobiography “If I Had to Do It All Over.” Her next book, “The Record of Heaven,” was self-published.
These volumes were followed by two Native-American books. “Sirquave, One with Kings,” a powerful and moving book, led to another book of the same origin, “Out of the Sand Creek Massacre.” “Dear Steven My Love” is her last book with her poetry. Now, Jackson’s attention is turned to creating children’s books.
