LAKELAND — One Lakeland man is dead and another is in the Lowndes County Jail charged with his murder, according to Lakeland Police Chief Robbie Grantham.
Just after 5 a.m. Saturday, authorities responded to Peeler Street and found 49-year-old Robert Lee Williams, who had been shot in the chest while riding his bike. Williams was allegedly shot at the intersection of Talley Avenue and 6th Street by his nephew, 17-year-old Darrius Dejon Foster, who was arrested less than two hours after the incident. Williams was able to stumble onto Peeler Street before collapsing, according to Grantham.
A resident looked out his window after hearing the gunshots and saw Williams collapse in the street and called 911.
Williams was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Grantham.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Lakeland Police Department with the investigation, which is ongoing. It may be possible that the altercation was drug-related.
Foster is currently being held in the Lowndes County Jail.
