Best-selling author Beverly Lewis is scheduled to make a book-signing appearance this morning at Potter’s House Parable Christian Store.

Lewis is in town to promote her latest novel, “The Forbidden,” which is the second volume in her “Courtship of Nellie Foster” series.

The plot: “A young Amish couple’s quest for love amid upheaval in their community and opposition from the one man who stands in their way. Caleb Yoder’s father has forbidden him to court Nellie Mae Fisher, but words alone cannot stop Caleb’s devotion. Yet, if he continues to pursue Nellie, he risks losing everything. Nellie, too, is torn. She longs to marry her Old Order beau but cannot ignore the gentle pull she feels toward the faith of the New Order family. Can they satisfy the expectations of the People while remaining true to their hearts?”

While “The Forbidden” is the second volume in the “Courtship of Nellie Foster” series, it is one of more than 70 books written by Lewis, who has sold more than six million copies worldwide since the debut of her first novel, “The Shunning,” in 1997.

Raised in Pennsylvania Amish country, Lewis’ novels center on Amish life.

“Writing memorable stories set in Amish farmland brings Beverly continual joy and inspiration,” according to her publicist. “Her own family heritage is Old Order Mennonite, but she has many dear friends among Amish communities in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana.”

While appearing on numerous bestseller lists, the Lewis novel “The Brethren” won the 2007 Christy Award for excellence in Christian fiction.

Author Beverly Lewis is scheduled to sign books and meet fans, 11 a.m.-noon today, Potter’s House Parable Christian Store, 3119 N. Oak St. Ext. More information: Call 247-5262.
