VALDOSTA — A suspected homeless man got more than he asked for Thursday outside the United States Post Office/Federal Building at 401 N. Patterson St.
The man, Danny Brown, 51, asked a 47-year-old woman exiting the building around noon for some spare change. When the woman refused, Brown reportedly shoved her, pulled a hammer from a bag he was carrying and threatened her, according to Cmdr. Brian Childress with the Valdosta Police Department.
Another male citizen saw the interaction and tackled Brown from behind. During the altercation between Brown and the 33-year-old man, the woman grabbed the hammer from Brown’s hand and struck him twice on the head with it. Brown was treated for injuries by EMS on-scene and was transported to South Georgia Medical Center. He is expected to make a full recovery, according to Childress.
Brown will face a judge today on charges of aggravated assault, battery and simple battery, according to Childress. No charges have been filed against the two victims in the case.
