Dixie prepares for Westbrook reunion

The Valdosta Daily Times

DIXIE

The Dixie Community Center is preparing to host a reunion for all former students, faculty, and friends of Westbrook School April 24-25. The reunion will consist of three events: a casual get-together, an open house at the school and a reunion party.

The casual get-together on Friday, April 24, will be from 7-11 p.m. at the home of Elizabeth Jones in Dixie. Jones is a former faculty member, Westbrook parent, and long-time Dixie resident.

Appetizers, beer and wine will be provided along with live music from local musicians.

The open house and picnic will be at Westbrook School from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, April 25. There will be barbecue available for purchase from Thompson Farms (owner Andrew Thompson is a Westbrook alumnus), or you may bring your own picnic lunch. There will be bounce houses and games available for the children. Since the two evening events are intended for adults, the planning committee is encouraging people to bring their children to this afternoon event.

The reunion party will begin at 7 p.m. in the Westbrook Gymnasium. The party will feature heavy hors d’oeuvres from Carter’s Catering (Lacey Dewitt Carter, Westbrook Class of ’02), full bar, and music by Mobile-based party band, Hotwire.

Tickets are $50 per person (includes all three events) and may be purchased at Citizens National Bank in Quitman, or by check made payable to Westbrook Reunion at PO Box 332, Quitman, GA 31643. Tickets must be purchased by April 11 and will not be sold at the door.

Westbrook School was founded in 1970 as Brooks County Christian School and served the families and children of South Georgia for more than 32 years. During that time, more than 600 students graduated from Westbrook and countless others walked its halls.

Organizers are grateful to event sponsors: South Georgia Pecan Company — Dale H. Crane (’78), BCT Gin, Boston Tractor Company — James Groover (’84), Lee Container — Robert Varnedoe (’79) and David Taylor (’82), M3 Productions — Wes Morgan (’76), Nichols Tractor — Timmy Hiers (’80), Roger Price Farms — Roger Price (’79), Ty Cardin (’80), Vance Hiers (’80), and attorney Vann K. Parrott (’90).
