Alice in Wonderland

VALDOSTA — Seeing the stage of Theatre Guild Valdosta’s Dosta Playhouse, it would seem that Alice’s Wonderland exists in South Georgia.
All the expected members of Wonderland’s population are there. The smiling Cheshire Cat. Time-killing Mad Hatter and his mad friends the March Hare and Dormouse. The perpetually late White Rabbit has jumped down a hole. The hookah-smoking Caterpillar has found a perch on a mushroom.
Tweedledee and Tweedledum, Humpty Dumpty, the Duchess, the Queen of Hearts, her army of cards.
These characters and more, such as kitchen help, walking flowers and talking mushrooms all line the stage.
And, of course, Alice.
For what is Wonderland without the wonder of Alice?
Samantha McLendon plays Alice for this Theatre Guild Valdosta Gingerbread Players show of “Alice In Wonderland.” She has played in several local shows and this is her first lead in a major production, says show director Pauline Player who has directed several TGV shows.
Player is the same director who brought Oz to life for the Guild’s musical “The Wizard of Oz,” breaking all of the community theatre’s attendance records. Now, she tries her hand at Lewis Carroll’s Wonderland in this play adapted for children’s theatre by playwright Michele L. Vacca.
This show represents the Theatre Guild’s annual spring children’s production, and includes a cast of approximately 40 local youngsters.
Performances are already selling out for this show, so the Guild asks that people call in advance to place reservations.
