Motorcycle rider dies

By Kelli Hernandez

HAHIRA — An accident victim died Thursday in Gainesville, Fla., four days after a collision in Hahira.

Roy Scott, 59 of Adel, was traveling west on Main Street in Hahira on his motorcycle when Richard Jackson, 40 of Tampa, Fla., pulled into his path attempting to turn into a private drive at 11:57 a.m. Sunday, according to Hahira Police Chief Terry Davis.

Scott was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, but was transported by ambulance to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment, according to Davis. He was then airlifted to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla., where he died Thursday afternoon due to injuries sustained in the accident. Jackson suffered minor injuries to his left arm caused by the airbag.

The Georgia State Patrol’s accident reconstruction team will assist the Hahira Police Department in reconstructing the collision. Davis said charges are pending following the completion of the investigation.
