A Ray City man was attacked with a baseball bat over the weekend, and the suspect remains at large.
Between 10-11 p.m. Saturday, Danny Justice, of Dana Drive, answered a knock at his door and was hit approximately three times with a metal bat, according to Ray City Police Department Chief Jeff Harrison.
Ray City police and deputies with the Berrien County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the incident shortly after it was reported. The suspect was described as a black male in a blue shirt, blue jeans and brown shoes, Harrison said.
While investigating the area, a deputy spotted someone who appeared to fit the description of the suspect. As the deputy stopped his patrol vehicle, the subject ran. The deputy gave chase on foot but lost sight of the subject when six gunshots were fired nearby, Harrison said.
“We are not sure whether the gunfire was connected to the incident at this time, but it is being investigated,” Harrison said. “No arrests have been made because there have been no positive identifications of the suspect.”
Harrison said the man attacked with the baseball bat was involved in a verbal altercation regarding his dog earlier in the day. It is not known whether or not that incident was related to the attack.
Harrison encourages anyone with information about the incident to contact the Ray City Police Department at (229) 455-2501.
