• Honoring a great woman

It would have to be someone special for my two grown daughters to call me in tears. It was. That special person was Mary Catherine Coffey who died on Saturday.

She was more than a medical professional that women visited once a year. She was a friend. She gave her patients friendship and the best women’s medical advice and care. She was never too busy or too tired. She was such an inspiration to generations of young women. Numerous friends have asked how we can honor her dedication and memory. Guardian Bank, 701 Wildwood Plantation, has agreed to set up the Mary Catherine Coffey Nursing Scholarship which will be awarded to a nursing student at Valdosta State University.
