H. Wayne Childree



H. Wayne Childree, 60, born on Aug. 2, 1947, died after a two-month battle with cancer.

He graduated from Valdosta High School, Class of ‘65 and Jacksonville University, Class of ‘99, with a Bachelor of Science degree. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, decorated with two Purple Hearts for service in Vietnam. His accomplishments, listed in ‘79 “Outstanding Young Men of America,” past president of the Valdosta Jaycees, Scottish Rite mason (Wm B. Barnett Lodge 187), shriner (Morocco Temple). He was executive vice president and co-owner of Steamcon, Inc., a specialty pipe repair company, based in Florida.

He is survived by his loving and caring wife, Mardi Childree; mother, Pat Childree of Valdosta; one son, Lt. Col. Glenn Sigley and wife Wendy of Brussels, Belgium; one daughter, Angela Childree of Augusta; five grandchildren, Evan Harrison, James Childree and Angela Childree of Augusta, Chais Sigley and Dawson Sigley, both of Belgium; two brothers, Gary Childree and wife Phyllis, and Rodney Childree; one sister, Judy Childree, all of Valdosta; and special friends from New Jersey, John and Maria Higgins.

A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 111 Blanding Blvd., Orange Park, Fla. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Wayne and Mardi request donations of your choice to American Cancer Society, 1430 Prudential Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32207 or American Diabetes Association, 8384 Baymeadows Road No. 10, Jacksonville, FL 32256. — Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, Orange Park, Fla.
