Thomasville man charged for threatening Lowndes sheriff

VALDOSTA — A Thomas County man’s social-media threats against Lowndes County Sheriff Chris Prine resulted in the 22-year-old’s recent arrest, according to the Thomas County Sheriff’s office.

Lamar Reddick was taken into custody and charged with terroristic threats on May 8, before bonding out a few hours later, said Capt. Stephen Jones of the Thomas County Sheriff's Office.

The charges stem from a threat posted against the sheriff on a social networking site, reportedly claiming he’d use an AR-15 and a large cache of bullets to attack Prine.

The suspect was reportedly upset with how the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation into the death of Kendrick Johnson, a 17-year-old Lowndes High School student who was found dead inside of a stack of wrestling mats in January.

Prine stated that Johnson’s death appeared to be accidental, a determination later confirmed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation autopsy report, but supporters of Johnson’s family believe the student was murdered.

The LCSO advised Jones’ office of the threats and Thomas County deputies acted with haste, stated Jones.

“Anytime anyone makes the threats like he made, you treat them as real,” said Jones. “It was quick. He admitted to making the threats and posting them on social media sites. So we took measures to determine whether he could act on them. As far as finding the type of gun he referenced, we didn’t locate anything like that.”

Prine could not be reached Wednesday and Lt. Stryde Jones in the LCSO stated he could not comment on the arrest at this time.
