Company aids Jacobs' Ladder

By Malynda Fulton

HAHIRA — In the spirit of the present United Way campaign, the people of Coleman Talley, LLP provided its own Day of Caring at Jacobs’ Ladder Therapeutic Riding Center in Hahira Saturday.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., numerous lawyers, staff members and family members of Coleman Talley painted barn stables, pressure-washed fences and made other much-needed improvements at the riding center.

Approximately 20 people from the law firm attended in hopes of making a difference.

“In these hard economic times, it is easy to look at our own numbers, but there are still places in the community that also need help,” said Attorney Russ Henry. “We have decided to focus our efforts on giving back to the community by doing things that are worthwhile with charities that need help.”

Henry said that the idea to do work at Jacob’s Ladder came from Attorney Hansell Watt, who is also a member of the United Way board.

Jacobs’ Ladder Founder Leslie Jacobs said that Coleman Talley “answered a prayer, literally.”

“This has been an extreme pleasure,” she said. “With no paid staff, we rely solely on the work of volunteers. We are glad that the United Way sent Coleman Talley our way. We also appreciate the work that the United Way does for all the agencies.”

Jacobs mentioned that the riding center can always use more volunteers.

Jacobs’ Ladder Therapeutic Riding Center provides equine-related activities to individuals with special needs. The riding center caters to individuals age three and older.
