The Valdosta area Rotary Clubs provide Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library books for free to registered children in Lowndes County every month until their fifth birthday. These high-quality, age-appropriate books are mailed directly to every child registered in the program. We believe that reading at home is important for children from all parts of our community because it leads to a lifetime of opportunity. Children who learn to read early in life become avid learners in school, skillful workers on the job, and informed citizens in the community.
There is no cost to the families of the children who are enrolled in the program. Bringing the Imagination Library to our community is supported entirely by the generosity of Valdosta area Rotarians, corporations, and community members in Lowndes County like you.
Since 2009, we have raised about $45,000 and provided books monthly to 455 children. We do not sign a child up until we have enough money in the bank to provide books through that child’s fifth birthday. We do not want a child to be disappointed if the books stop coming.
That strategy worked just fine until last month. At the end of September, we did not have enough money in the bank for more than 43 children whose parents had tried to sign them up. September is the first month that we had more children than money in the bank for them. If we can enroll these children and others that have already applied, we will surpass the milestone of serving 500 children.
It takes only $24 to provide a child with an Imagination Library book each month for a year or $120 from birth to the child’s fifth birthday.
When you support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, you are making an investment in the future of Lowndes County. Our future is our children! You can make a life-altering investment in the future of our children by supporting their five-year journey in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Their success will be our success. Thank you from the Imagination Library Team!
