A former Valdosta singer won a Dove Award this week.
Devin McGlamery, the lead singer with Ernie Haase & Signature Sound, won the Gospel Music Association’s 44th Annual Dove Award for country song of the year for the song “From My Rags to His Riches.”
“It’s such a great honor to win at the Dove Awards this year and I’m excited the show is back in Nashville too,” McGlamery told The Christian Post after winning the award Tuesday.
McGlamery has been a member of Ernie Haase & Signature Sound since 2010. He previously performed with Karen Peck & New River and the Dixie Melody Boys.
Many Valdosta residents may recall a much younger Devin singing as a child and teen locally and throughout South Georgia at churches, fairs, festivals, and other events. In a past interview, he told The Valdosta Daily Times that he would sing wherever he was invited as a youngster. His parents, Don and Sandra McGlamery, still live in Valdosta.
At the age of 17, following his high school graduation, Devin McGlamery became a full-time professional singer with the harmonic Dixie Melody Boys and toured with this group for five years.
In the mid-2000s, he joined another already established group as lead tenor with Karen Peck & New River. With Karen Peck & New River, McGlamery was part of a twice-nominated group for the best Southern, country, or bluegrass gospel album Grammy category.
The awards will be aired, 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, on the UP Uplifting Entertainment network.
