VALDOSTA —

Looking to forget your troubles, laugh out loud and tap your toes? Go no further than Peach State Summer Theatre's "The Marvelous Wonderettes."
PSST! was originally worried this show would be its tough sell. Everyone is familiar with "The Sound of Music." Theatre lovers know Stephen Sondheim, the composer behind "A Little Night Music." But what is "The Marvelous Wonderettes"? How would PSST! fill the seats to this show?
Well, as word travels regarding the talent and fun in this show, PSST! may have to find more seats to accommodate the large audiences for "The Marvelous Wonderettes." Already, some audience members have seen the show more than once.
What's the appeal?
"The Marvelous Wonderettes" is a musical comedy. The first act is set at a 1958 high school prom and features hit songs from the '50s. The second act is set in the same high school's 10- year reunion and is filled with songs from the '60s. The show features a small ensemble cast of four young women who share their lives, loves and dreams and connect them with the hit songs from the '50s and '60s. All with a tremendous sense of humor that immediately connects with the audience.
The cast is marvelous and each performer is a Wonderette. They are Jessica Mathis, Amy Fritsche, Sandia Ahlers, and Rachel Day. They never miss a beat from comic timing to vocal pitch. They interact without a hitch as an ensemble and they shine individually. They have the audience laughing out loud and audiences will be tempted to sing aloud ... but don't. This cast has the pipes to belt out each line of every song. Leave the singing to the Wonderettes.
Besides, they have great fun with the audience, interacting with viewers. The audience member selected as Mr. Lee on the night of this review nearly received his own standing ovation.
Director Barbara Hartwig never lets the pace or the fun stop in this show. You must see "The Marvelous Wonderettes" to know what everyone is talking about.
This review is based on the Thursday, June 27, performance.

PSST!'s "The Marvelous Wonderettes" plays again 2 p.m. today, June 29, and continues in various times and dates through mid-July, Sawyer Theatre, Valdosta State University Fine Arts Building, corner of Oak and Brookwood. More information: Visit valdosta.edu/psst
