VALDOSTA — Valdosta State University Theatre & Dance presents a bit of Tony Award magic this weekend with the 2012 Cabaret fundraiser for student theatre and dance scholarships.

“And the Tony Goes To ...” is scheduled to feature a meal and VSU Theatre & Dance students presenting songs and choreography from Broadway shows. Songs will be from “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum,” “Guys and Dolls,” “The Pajama Game,” “The Music Man,” “Anything Goes,” “Newsies,” “Company,” “Jersey Boys,” “Titanic,” “The Lion King,” “The Wiz,” “A Little Night Music,” says H. Duke Guthrie, VSU Theatre & Dance professor.

Cabaret has proven popular with audiences and successful in raising thousands of dollars in scholarship funds for VSU Theatre & Dance students. The evening’s entertainers are traditionally students who have benefited from the scholarships.

Since introducing the Cabaret shows, they have gone from being a Valdosta-Lowndes County-only event to performances throughout South Georgia. VSU Theatre & Dance Cabaret will likely be performed in regional cities in the months to come.
