VALDOSTA — Valdosta Middle School Players bring the popular movie and TV show “Fame” to the stage in a big way.

With two principal casts, VMS Players Director Toni Jarvis leads 120 students in this song-and-dance extravaganza set to play two nights this week. The stage show is based on the 1980 movie about students attending the High School of Performing Arts and their travails as they study to become dancers, actors and singers.

Featuring eighth, seventh and sixth graders, Jarvis has rehearsed her students for the past several weeks at Valdosta Middle School. On Monday, they began rehearsing in what will be the performance space in the Valdosta High School Performing Arts Center, making the adjustments from classroom to stage.

This production is the “junior” production of “Fame,” meaning it has been abridged for content and length for a younger cast. Audiences will still find many favorite songs such as “Hard Work,” “There She Goes/Fame,” etc.

Meanwhile, the student performers of VMS Players will reach for the stars.
