A Lake Park woman who has battled weight through most of her adult life has lost 100 pounds through Weight Watchers.
Cynthia Diamond, marketing representative for Bethany Hospice, began Weight Watchers in May 2011 and reached her goal one year and two months later in July of this year.
“I have gained and lost more pounds over the years than I care to remember,” said the Thomasville native who grew up in Cairo. “The clothes in my closet were arranged by all the different sizes I have been instead of the season we were in.
“Having struggled with my weight most of my adult life, I finally realized how truly weary I was of fighting this battle and not having control of my eating/weight. I was so tired of being exhausted all the time and not being (able) to do the things I enjoy.”
Her journey to a healthier lifestyle and weight began one day when Diamond stopped by to visit a friend, and her friend mentioned that she was going to join Weight Watchers. She asked Diamond if she were interested and suggested that they could support each other.
“By the next night, we were sitting in a local Weight Watchers meeting, and my new journey had begun,” Diamond said.
The wife of Mike Diamond and mom of 7-year-old Anna Grace said she, like many people, always found an excuse to put off making a change.
“With Weight Watchers, I have learned how to make the healthiest choices,” she said. “I have also learned that it is OK when you slip. The important thing is to get right back on track. I no longer allow myself to feel guilty.
“As an adult, I have come to the realization that most things in life are beyond our control. Our weight, however, is something that we can control. Weight Watchers empowered me by teaching me that I make the choice what goes in my body. I now know that no one can do it for me. I made a commitment to myself to focus on small attainable goals. It is a lifestyle change and a mindset.”
Now that she’s at her goal weight, Diamond says she knows that the benefits of being healthy far outweigh the effort and the sacrifices she made along the way. “I continue to exercise daily, plan my meals ahead of time, and keep my mind focused on what I have accomplished,” she said. “As a lifetime member, I continue to attend Weight Watchers meetings regularly. I genuinely feel like a different person.”
She has also been able to encourage others in their weight loss journey by speaking at several Weight Watchers meetings and community events.
“... my hope would be that my story would inspire others to make the lifelong commitment to eat well, be healthy, and to live the best life possible.”
