2014 Early Movies



7: “300: Rise of an Empire,” sequel to “300” ... Greeks and Persians still battle, this time at sea. “Mr. Peabody and Sherman,” animated feature based on the 1960s TV cartoon shorts that take a dog and his boy on adventures through time.

14: “Need for Speed,” a desperate cross-country race of revenge and redemption. “Tyler Perry’s Single Moms Club,” an incident at their children’s school brings together a group of single moms. “Bad Words,” an adult attempts to win the national spelling bee through a l-o-o-p-h-o-l-e. “Veronica Mars,” Kristen Bell reprises her title role from the TV show that continues on the big screen. “Enemy,” Jake Gyllenhaal plays two roles in this dramatic tale of dysfunctional discovery of two men who look alike. “Grace of Monaco,” Nicole Kidman plays Grace Kelly, the American movie star who became a real-life princess. “Le Week-End,” aging Brit couple hope to rekindle romance by returning to their honeymoon spot in Paris.

21: “Divergent,” story set in a world where people are quartered together based on their personalities. “Muppets Most Wanted,” the Muppets travel the world. “Stretch,” limo driver hopes to score a big pay-off but first he must survive the ride. “Blood Ties,” two brothers find themselves on opposing sides of the law. “50 to 1,” a group of New Mexico cowboys find themselves on the unexpected road to the Kentucky Derby.

28: “Noah,” movie version of the biblical flood, with Russell Crowe in the title role. “A Haunted House 2,” a Wayans comedy sequel. “Cesar Chavez,” biopic of the famed civil rights leader, played by Michael Pena.


4: “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Marvel superhero returns in this sequel to “Captain America” and “The Avengers.” “Island of Lemurs: Madagascar,” nature film narrated by Morgan Freeman. “Under the Skin,” Scarlett Johansson stars in this movie about an alien seductress in Scotland. “Dom Hemingway,” stars Jude Law as a paroled safecracker.

11: “Rio 2,” animated sequel. “Draft Day,” Kevin Costner in his third role for 2013, plays an NFL owner wanting the top draft. “Sabotage,” Arnold Schwarzenegger leads a DEA task force. “Only Lovers Left Alive,” immortal lovers reunite. “St. Vincent,” Bill Murray stars in this film of a reprobate veteran who becomes a boy’s unlikely mentor.

18: “Transcendence,” Johnny Depp is an artificial intelligence researcher whose work inadvertently has a chance to succeed ... will it transcend or corrupt? “Bears,” Disney nature film.

25: “The Other Woman,” Cameron Diaz stars in the story of a woman who teams with her boyfriend’s wife to destroy him. “Walk of Shame,” a news anchor is locked out of her apartment, etc., after a wild night on the town. “Earth to Echo,” ETs phone Earth?
