Trunk or treat!

By Elizabeth Butler

VALDOSTA — Not only will the adults get to enjoy a car show featuring about 15 “tricked-out” cars, children will also go “Trunk or Treating” out of the trunks of cars at the Abundant Life Church of God communitywide fall festival from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 31.

“The members of the church are quite excited as this (festival) will be our first large event on our new property at 3419 Knights Academy Road,” said festival coordinator Megan Dunbar. “We feel strongly that we have put together an event that will appeal to all ages.

“Our Children’s Ministry is providing free Trunk or Treating which is a safer alternative to going door-to-door for treats. Members of the church will park their cars in a designated area on the church grounds and fill their trunks with treats. The car trunks will all be decorated to theme stories from the Bible, and some of the car owners will be dressed as the characters of their story.”

Other various ministries of the church will provide a wide array of entertainment: hay rides, 20 carnival games, face paining, DJ booth, and three Bounce houses.

Children can participate in all activities with tickets, which cost 10 cents each.

All food will be available for purchase with food tickets, which cost 50 cents each.

“We will be offering carnival-style snack foods such as popcorn, snow cones, and cotton candy, courtesy of our Women’s Ministry and apple cider and boiled peanuts, courtesy of our Men’s Ministry, all for one food ticket apiece,” Dunbar said.

“Our Girl’s Clubs will be sponsoring a chili cook-off, where visitors are welcome to taste all of the 12-15 potential prize winners for one food ticket apiece.

“And our Senior Adult Ministry will be providing hamburgers and hot dogs for two food tickets apiece and chips and drinks for one food ticket apiece.”

Every visitor will be registered to win prizes to be given away over the course of the evening. Give-aways include restaurant gift cards, shopping gift cards and four Wild Adventures tickets.
