BOOKS: Brimstone by Douglas Preston & Lincoln Child

By Dean Poling

FBI Agent Pendergast is back in this more recent thriller from the author pair whose past works include the bestsellers “Relic,” “Reliquary,” and more. Here, Pendergast is pulled into the discovery of a body in an attic. Not so much because of the body but what accompanies it: a hoofprint sizzled into the floor; the reek of sulfur. Pendergast discovers that 30 years earlier, something hellish had been conjured from depths. Now, it is Pendergast’s duty to stop what others have wrought. Like other Preston-Child books, hellish things walk the earth, but quite often the most hellish things grow within men’s souls.
