Go paperless: 3 apps to keep more info with less mess

If you're environmentally conscious or just don't like the stacks of paper sitting around, going paperless using your phone is a practical option with the help of a few apps.

Shoeboxed

For everyone who submits expense reports, itemizes tax returns or just relies on receipts to keep a balanced checkbook, there is Shoeboxed, to replace the actual shoebox.

Scan receipts, track mileage and export all your data to other financial tracking programs.

Shoeboxed is free on Apple and Android stores.

JotNot

Use your phone's camera to scan documents, receipts, contracts or handwritten notes and then send the PDF files to your email inbox or a cloud storage. The  app corrects for shadows, white balance and exposure to keeping scanned images clear and easy to read.

JotNot is available for free from the Apple store.

MyFax

If you want to go paperless but need to conduct business with people who still use fax machines the MyFax app and service can keep you working but trim the stacks of paper.

The MyFax apps are available for free for Apple and Android users, but after the 30 day free trial the service costs $10 per month.
