Today when you wake up, it will be an hour later than it was at the exact same time yesterday. Confused? So are most folks. Just remember that it’s “spring forward, fall behind” so in the spring, you set your clocks an hour forward. Which means that at 2 a.m. this morning, you should have set your clocks to read 3 a.m., thus losing an hour of sleep — unless you decided to sleep in.
To me, it’s all very confusing and I have never understood why we change by a whole hour two times a year. Couldn’t we change by a half hour and leave time alone? But I won’t be complaining this week that I’m no longer leaving work in the dark.
So if you are well rested and still looking for something to do on this beautiful Sunday, make plans to attend the second and final day of the Azalea Festival in Drexel Park. The day’s festivities include great entertainment, lots of vendors selling food, handmade items, and much more, a children’s play area and a classic car show. There’s something for everybody. Remember, it’s our community festival, named for our lovely flowering azaleas which are still beautifully in bloom despite the cold weather this week.
Get out and enjoy the day, enjoy the sunlit evening hours, and celebrate the coming of spring!
The big news this week is the grand opening of the new Publix on Inner Perimeter Road. The new grocery store officially opened Thursday morning and has pretty much been crowded with a full parking lot ever since.
This week, the new Chicken Salad Chick restaurant will open on Tuesday. Located in the North Oak Street plaza, the restaurant will feature 15 different chicken salad flavors plus soups, salads and desserts. They are on the end of the plaza, facing North Oak, next to Howard Diet and they also have a drive-through.
The new Egg & I restaurant being built on North Ashley Street is accepting applications on Monday afternoon. The restaurant is nearly finished and will open on April 8.
The folks at Bad Habitz Saloon are gearing up for an opening sometime in the next week or two. I understand they’ve totally redone the interior and added large TVs for sports and a number of other changes. The restaurant is located where Loco’s was on Gornto Road by the mall.
The Red Lobster restaurant on St. Augustine has a sign up saying they are open through their remodeling. The remodeling started a week or so ago, but the work is being accomplished to minimize the impact on their customers.
JC Penney is also remodeling its store at the Valdosta Mall, and will remain open during the process.
HeritageBank of the South is hosting its grand-opening celebration on Thursday this week, in conjunction with a business after hours event. The new main branch of the bank is located on Inner Perimeter across from Mama June’s. On Baytree Road, a new Waffle House is nearly finished, even though it seems like they just started on it. It’s close to Manny’s. And Kill Bills is now open in the strip center behind Slap Daddys.
That’s it for this week, but if there’s something I missed, please let me know!
