Thunderbirds back at Moody this weekend

VALDOSTA — Moody Air Force Base is once again holding an open house for the community to showcase the base, its mission, and its airmen.

The USAF Thunderbirds will be back this year as the main event, performing on both Saturday and Sunday. They’ll be practicing on Friday, so you may even get to see them then as well!

In addition to the incredible show these elite pilots put on, you and your kids will love the jet bus, which is a school bus with a jet engine on it. It’s loud and extremely fast, and really fund to watch.

Numerous other aerial demonstrations will take place, with vintage aircraft and the newer planes in the Air Force arsenal. A jump team, a variety of aircraft on static display, and numerous other activities on the ground will round out a full weekend.

The Open House is free and open to the public, and this year, the theme is Legacy of Liberty 2012, in honor of the history of the Air Force, which celebrated 65 years this year.

The Moody Volunteer will include a site map and instructions and the Times has published a full guide to the Air Show in today’s paper.

This event is only held every other year at Moody and is a great way to see the base, meet old friends and make new ones, give your children a fun and educational outing, and to thank Moody and its airmen for all they do for this community year-round.
