Get your springtime tips from Valdosta Scene

VALDOSTA — The April issue of the Valdosta Scene magazine came out last week and is full of tips and ideas for spring projects, outings, and more.

Spring fashions are  modeled by our Scene models, just in time for Easter. The kind folks at Southern Gardens gave excellent ideas for spring planting projects and how to tips for gardening this time of year.

Taking tips from Pinterest, one writer took on a do-it-yourself project that is a really cute and fun idea, and most importantly, an inexpensive way to organize your makeup.

Thanks to Jessie’s Eats and Treats downtown for creating some delicious dishes and ideas for spring picnics, along with wine pairings from Horse Creek Winery.

And of course the great advice from our columnists, photos from recent events, great finds and more. The Scene is always a great celebration of our community and all that it has to offer.

Pick up a copy today at Books-A-Million or the Times’ office, read and enjoy!

Business Roundup

Valdosta State University is celebrating its official grand opening for the new Health Sciences and Business Administration building this week, on Friday. Exciting news for the community and we look forward to seeing the increasing collaboration between VSU and SGMC because of the new state-of-the-art facility.

Manny’s sub shop on Baytree closed down recently and a sign on the marquee says Chubby Chicken Fingers is coming soon to that location.

Sephora is opening inside JCPenney on May 2 in the Valdosta Mall. The cosmetics retailer is well known for carrying lines that are difficult to find outside large cities. Ulta, another cosmetics store, will be opening soon after at the mall where McAlister’s used to be.

A new store, This & That Vintage, Antiques, Collectibles & More, opened in March on South Patterson Street.

No word yet on an opening date for Gondolier’s on Norman Drive and no response from the company from my inquiry. If anyone knows, please share.

The Hofbrauhaus will hopefully be opening soon on North Ashley Street and Baytree Pizza should also be opening soon at the Mall. Speculation is that Mellow Mushroom is taking either their old location on Baytree or the building beside Las Banderas.

The Dollar General in Hahira is about a week away from opening, with the parking lot being paved this weekend and the merchandising beginning in the store as well.

First Commercial Real Estate is moving to a larger office in the Bajalia building due to recent growth, always a good sign.

Interesting news this week for those who sew — Tifton is getting a Jo-Ann Fabric store. It will be opening the end of April. Valdosta has tried recruiting them for years, supposedly, but Tifton was first again.

Construction continues on several areas around town, from Kaufmann Tires on Inner Perimeter next to Chick-Fil-A to the Flowers Bakery outlet on Bemiss Road.

That’s all I have for this week, but if there’s something I missed, please let me know!
