Home Builders holding Casino Night
Go ahead and mark Friday, Aug. 9, on your calendar to attend the Home Builders Casino Night at the Turner Center for the Arts. A portion of the proceeds will go to several local charities and it’s a fun event. No “real” gambling will take place, of course, but your ticket includes “money” to play with as entertainment only, with prizes available along with hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets are $50 each or $80 per couple and can be purchased at the Home Builders Association office or by calling (229) 247-8422.
The new Tree House consignment shop in the Five Points Plaza is still in need of donations of items to sell and volunteers to help staff the shop and sort through the items. All proceeds benefit the Langdale Hospice House and if they come across a donated item that they can’t use, they pass it on to another charity in town, so all donations and proceeds stay local.
I got a terrific birds eye view from the fourth floor of SGMC last week of the construction on the new VSU Health Sciences and Business Administration building. Wow. It’s impressive from ground level but even more so from that height. It is going to be an outstanding contribution to our local economy, but I sincerely hope there are some other plans for major construction soon so we don’t see our construction industry suffer once this and the SGMC building projects are complete.
The Sam’s expansion is ongoing and when it’s done, it will basically double the size of the existing store on Norman Drive.
It looks like Rum Runners on North Valdosta Road is expanding and adding on to the existing building.
The work on Inner Perimeter — clearing a site, etc. — is going to see a new Family Dollar when it’s done.
Work on the future location of the Coyoacan restaurant where the Green Iguana used to be on St. Augustine is moving right along, with an August opening in mind.
I understand that there is going to be a new Golden Corral built in town on St. Augustine, but can’t figure out which parcel.
Does anyone know where they are going to build?
I also understand that there is a new business called Birdville in the Walmart plaza on Inner Perimeter. The new shop carries birds, of course, along with all kinds of accessories and it sounds like a really cool store, so if you like birds, check it out.
Unfortunately, I’ve heard that the Potter’s House is closing its doors at the end of the month. Very sad to see them go as they’ve been around for a number of years.
Sorry again I was out last week. Would much rather have been at work. So if there’s something I missed, please let me know!
