Thrift stores for thrifty spenders

VALDOSTA — All right everybody, let’s be honest with each other. After Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa, Valentine’s Day and filing taxes (returns due April 15, if you’ve been procrastinating like me), we’re all pretty broke. Luckily, rap music is here to help us.

If you’ve been listening to the radio lately, you might’ve heard the song “Thrift Shop” by a couple of guys named Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. The catchy song is a celebration of thrift shops, of finding $3 T-shirts, $5 coats and the occasional keyboard. Valdosta has a veritable cornucopia of thrift shops, from the well-known to the not-so-well known, from the furniture-focused to the clothing-obsessed, from the for-profit to the non-profit.

But if you don’t know where they are, you might drive by them everyday. And if you don’t know what they offer, you might spend hours trying to find the one that has Delft blue vases (as of Friday, Simply Otra Vez). So, what follows is a quick reference guide for local thrift shops. Put it on the fridge, fold it in your wallet/purse/manpurse, or take a picture of it with your smartphone.
