Senior Showcase coming up Saturday

VALDOSTA — The annual Senior Living Showcase, sponsored by the Valdosta Daily Times, is next weekend at the Rainwater Conference Center.

Considering that 60 is the new 40 and 50 is the new 30, instead of being geared towards inactive senior citizens, the show is tailored for those with active lifestyles  who are still very much in the market for a wide variety of items that will enhance their lives.

More than 50 vendors will be set up to cater to a wide audience and age ranges, and prizes, giveaways and more will be handed out by vendors and throughout the show.

The showcase is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is always one of the most well attended events of the year.

Even if you don’t consider yourself to be a senior, it’s still worth going to check out what products and services are out there, and you never know what you might learn.

The event is free and there will even be golf cart shuttles from the parking lot so you don’t have to walk in the heat!

Business Roundup

It looks like the Gondoliers Italian restaurant announced in the spring has broken ground on its new site next to Cheddars on Norman Drive.

Updates on the various new places coming to town. Hooters is supposed to open in early September, Golden Corral is supposed to start building in the fall on its new site by the Olive Garden and the Drury Inn, and the Coyoacan is underway on St. Augustine where the Green Iguana was, hopefully with an opening time later this month.

I understand that the Submarinas that had closed earlier this year have now reopened on Norman Drive and Bemiss Road.

Big Al’s in Lake Park is now open, in the place where the KC’s pizzeria used to be on Highway 41.

It looks like the Rum Runners on N. Valdosta Road is finished with its expansion.

The Crance family is opening a new art, furniture and design store, joining Doug Carter’s Squirrel’s Nest business on Gornto.

There is another grocery type business moving into the former Mr. B’s IGA on W. Hill Ave. I should have specifics next week.

Also, I heard from several readers that it really does appear that Walmart Express is opening in Adel. I’ve heard exit 39, but if anyone knows differently, please correct me.

Several of us have noticed that the land behind El Toreo is being cleared at Five Points. Anyone know what’s going in there?

Happy 5th Anniversary to the Smok’n Pig!

Tomorrow marks their birthday.

That’s it for this week, but if I missed anything, please let me know!
