The Valdosta Daily Times
With the first of the new year upon us, it’s time once again for the Best of South Georgia contest, where you get to select who you think are the most deserving individuals and businesses to be named The Valdosta Daily Times Best of South Georgia in their category.
You can go online today through Wednesday to The Times’ website and click on the Best of, which will take you to our online ballot. Nominate the one you think is the most deserving in each category and at the end of the month, a full ballot will be published in the paper with the top three nominees in each category. You can only vote once, so make your vote count!
After the official ballot comes out, you will have about two weeks to pick the one in each category you think should win from those nominated.
There are some businesses in town that seem to win every year, while other categories surprise us each year. You never know who may end up as the winner, but you won’t have any
say-so in the contest if
you don’t vote, so go
online today and nominate who you think should
be the winners!
The Taco Bell down in Lake Park is finally open and, man, are they staying busy! That side of the interstate has some great restaurants.
In the strip center behind the Taco Bell is where the new Lake Park YMCA is moving to, so stay tuned for an official opening date, around the first of February.
The Publix on Inner Perimeter is really taking shape, and you can see dozens of workers all over the place every day now. It will also include a strip center and the sign went up for Perimeter Park, so let’s hope the rest of the sign fills up soon.
The same is true over by the interstate at Drury Inn. The big sign went up this week, announcing that they have several restaurant and retail pads available by the hotel and the Olive Garden. Good to see the new light and the new roadway by there really moving along now, which will tremendously help traffic coming and going from those businesses.
The new Egg and I restaurant is moving along well too on North Ashley Street, with an eye towards opening around the first of April.
And if you’ve driven down Patterson lately, you will see how much farther along the new VSU Health Sciences center is coming, with the steel up for most of the framework now. It’s going to be a pretty good-sized building once it’s done next year and a very welcome addition to the community.
That’s it for this week, but if there’s something I missed, please let me know!
