If you missed the story in Friday’s paper, go back and read it. It’s all about five fabulous female physicians in Valdosta who are juggling their duties as doctors with motherhood, and doing it quite well, might I add.
Friday was Doctor’s Day, an annual recognition to honor physicians. We all know they work hard but didn’t realize they occasionally have fun too, and they really do enjoy working with each other.
At SGMC Friday, apparently the doctors got together and several received awards, as voted by the SGMC staff.
Dr. Willy Saurina was selected as the Doctor’s Doctor for best practices, professionalism, integrity and honor. Best Sense of Humor went to Dr. Gregory Beale, Friendliest is Dr. Felix Valdez, Quietest is Dr. Jasbil Gill, Best Dressed honors went to Dr. K.G. Kumar, Most Punctual is Dr. Arunas Urbonas, Dr. John Anderson has the Best Bedside Manner, Dr. Felix Valdez is the Most Compassionate, Best Handwriting was awarded to Dr. David Parker, Dr. George Pennington was named Most Professional and Dr. Eric Anderson was named Best Looking.
Physicians really do have a lot going on all the time, nearly all the specialists take multiple call nights each month, but most of the ones I know are also very family oriented.
Although we may not always appreciate them, it’s nice to know they’re there when we need them. Congratulations to the winners and to SGMC for recognizing their efforts.
The former Bosch dealership on North Valdosta Road now has cars back all over the lot. The sign says it is now Georgia Car Credit.
Also on North Valdosta Road, there is a foundation being poured for a building in the area next to Girardin’s. Anyone know what it’s going to be?
And not far from there, Dr. Parrott’s walk-in clinic is expanding. I understand it’s a popular place.
If you’ve been by Target lately, you’ll find the parking lot filled with large containers and building material. The store is getting ready for a major almost million dollar expansion to make it into a PFresh store, offering an expanded selection and grocery items.
There is a new restaurant called Peg Legs at Exit 22. It’s located in the Days Inn where the Burger King was until they built their own site next door. Peg Legs is open Sunday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m and until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. They offer a full breakfast menu, and serve lunch and dinner, with steak, seafood, catfish, etc. on their menu. They just opened last week.
I’m hearing that the Wedge restaurant on Baytree is getting ready to open. The signage and everything is already in place. It’s located by Baytree Pizza.
The new fitness center, Factor X Fitness, is about a week or so away from their grand opening. Located on Norman Drive, the totally remodeled center is next to Harveys.
The Fred’s on Bemiss went up quickly and they were putting the finishing touches on the parking lot and interior this week. They should be open in the next week or so.
The new Liquor Barn on North Valdosta Road is preparing to open as well. It’s next to Rum Runners.
And no, construction on North Valdosta Road is not for Crosspointe Church, it’s on adjacent property and it’s just being leveled, etc. The church is not expected to begin building for several months.
That’s about it for this week, but if there’s something I missed, please let me know!
