VALDOSTA — Business Roundup

There are two building permits for new construction this week that are exciting - for the Chicken Salad Chick and Small Cakes, both located on N. Oak Street Extension.

There is a really cool new store in Lakeland that recently opened called GO, which stands for Grits & Olive. Located on W. Thigpen Ave., the shop is an addition to the Georgia Olive Company and Gayla's Grits and sells products from the two companies in addition to t-shirts and other accessories.

Now that the Drury Inn is officially open by Exit 18, work on the side connecting street is back underway in earnest and after the traffic this week at Starbucks and Olive Garden, it will be a very welcome improvement. Workers were also working on a back entrance to the development, which will also come in handy as more restaurants and retail is expected to come there in 2013.

On Patterson St., noticed this week that Lee’s Bookstore is now Dork Bookstore. Interesting change.

And on Hill Ave. near Exit 16, a sign says that Georgia Auto Pawn is moving into one of those vacant business areas.

Construction continues on the Egg and I, SGMC, the new doctor’s building on N. Oak, Publix etc. and here’s hoping that 2013 brings a lot more new construction, new business, new jobs and prosperity to our community.

That’s it for this week, but if there’s something I missed, please let me know.
