Selling their souls and then pocketing the cash

SAVANNAH — Are you pregnant and need to make some extra cash? No worries, just take a pregnancy test and sell it on Craigslist for $25. Sure, you may be compromising your morals and unknowingly ruining someone else's life, but who am I to judge you?

The things that people do for money never cease to amaze me. I wish I was making up that women are selling their positive pregnancy tests, but no, true story. We've become so desperate for things that we start compromising things that used to never be for sale . . . Like our souls. Apparently, compromising our national security even totes a nice price tag and it's only $85.

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is expanding its expedited screening program called PreCheck to 60 new airports by the end of the year. Currently, 40 airports offer the service. While only frequent fliers and those who are members of U.S. Customs and Border Protection's trusted traveler programs can participate, TSA says later this year it will launch an application process to allow passengers who want to join PreCheck to pay $85, verify their identity and provide fingerprints at an enrollment center.

PreCheck is supposed to be a part of a larger effort by TSA to move to “security based more on risks that certain passengers may pose.” Yeah, because people with the intention of doing something really horrible often look like they are about to do something really horrible. You know, like the guy who boarded a plane in 2009 with explosives sewn to the inside of his underwear. Thankfully, the only thing he was successful at was lighting himself on fire with firecrackers, but you see my point.

These are all extreme examples of desperation, but it gets you thinking about how people or even an entire country gets to that point. Have you ever done anything for money that when you look back on it, it makes you shudder? Believe it or not, there are a few ways for you to make money when you're in a bind. Here are my two favorite methods to bring in some extra money:



Poshmark

Poshmark is the fashion world's solution to eBay. Have you ever tried to sell a designer purse on eBay? I have, and I didn't even get a legitimate money offer. Most people either wanted to “trade me” the purse for an iPhone or just wanted me to straight up ship it to Africa so some non-existent child could have a nice birthday. Seriously, why does your six-year-old niece need a Michael Kors bag? Nice try.

eBay is great for professionals who sell multiple items and pretty much have a side business out of it, but for someone like me just trying to sell a few items, it's not worth it. You have to pay a fee to eBay and then you have to pay a fee to PayPal and you can't even withdraw your money from PayPal until it reaches a

certain amount.

However, Poshmark has done away with all of that. All you do is get the app, take some pictures of the fashion piece you are trying to sell and list it! Once it sells, they take a 20 percent commission fee, but that fee includes everything from not having to directly deal with the client all the way to mailing you a pre-paid shipping label. It's pretty glorious.



Etsy

I've written about Etsy multiple times for people who want to buy fairly priced, unique, quality items, but what you may not have known is it is fairly easy for you to sell your own items.  

Etsy only allows you to sell handmade goods, vintage items or craft supplies. There are no membership fees and it only costs 20 cents to list an item. Once you sell your item, Etsy only takes a 3.5 percent commission.

It's a great place for crafty beginners because Etsy already has everything laid out for you to be successful. You get your own “shop” or webpage that you can decorate with a unique profile picture and shop banner and it's an already built-in network of 15 million buyers.

Some buyers have even become so successful on Etsy that they have branched out to creating their own businesses and physical storefronts.
