VALDOSTA — Business Roundup

The newly rebuilt Wendy’s reopened this week on St. Augustine. It’s a completely new design and one of only 100 in the country to have been chosen to do the rebuild. They’ve added a fireplace, a flat-panel TV and free wi-fi, along with other features. It’s pretty unique, so you might want to check it out.

There is a new Caribbean restaurant downtown across from the courthouse on Ashley Street that just opened.

There is a large building permit for Valdosta Corners by the mall but no idea what it’s going to be or exactly where it is, so if someone knows, please pass the information on.

Construction is continuing around town on the Sam’s Club, the new Italian restaurant, Gondoliers, and the new commercial lending center for Southwest Georgia Bank.

The new Health Sciences and Business Administration building at VSU is nearly finished and it’s such an impressive sight. Between it and all the new construction just finished at SGMC, that whole area looks entirely different than it did just a year or two ago. It’s exciting to see all those years of planning finally come to fruition!

I was taken to task this week for questioning the number of new dollar stores in the area. In addition to the four I mentioned, there are five more that have been built in the last year. Again, I’m pro-growth, but that many of any one type of business raises questions. However, if the powers that be are happy, who am I to question the logic?

That’s it for this week, but if there’s something I missed, please let me know!
