LAKE PARK — Offering curls, cuts, and color is a barber and beauty salon that recently hit the city of Lake Park like a ton of bricks.

Well, maybe more like a ton of bobby pins.

It’s Joyce’s Barber & Beauty Shop.

After 32 years of experience, Joyce Seeman decided to open Joyce’s Barber & Beauty Shop on April 1 at 208 W. Marion Ave.

Among other things, a need for security was the driving force behind her business venture.

“This is my fifth barber shop,” said Seeman. “I came from Claudia’s full-service salon with good clients. I was no longer working there and had to do something.”

Seeman said the Lake Park community has been very supportive of her business.

She sees many old clients and has gained the trust of several new ones.

“People have been wonderful to me ...,” said Seeman. “I’ve just got some really good clients.”

Seeman credits her wide range of skills with her continued success in the business.

“I don’t really specialize in anything,” said Seeman. “After 32 years, I just do it all.”

When asked about the future, Seeman continued, “I see the business growing — growing big time. I would like to have another girl in here, maybe someone straight out of school who is willing to learn something.”

Seeman believes that what sets her shop apart from the competition is the convenience of having a beautician who is also a barber.

“I’m a female barber, and you don’t see many of them around.” Seeman said.
