VALDOSTA — A professional business park, Greystone Way has attracted several physicians to open offices there because of its perfect location.

Scott Farquhar, gastroenterologist, and Fauzia Durrani, allergist, moved their offices to Greystone Way on the same day, Sept. 4. Both think that the location is very convenient as it is right in the middle between South Georgia Medical Center and Smith Northview Hospital.

“I like it very much because it’s a very convenient and very clean area,” Durrani said.

There are seven doctors’ offices at Greystone Way already, and only two that are not. Construction on the last available lot started recently which will be also a doctor’s office.

According to Charlie Powers, developer of Greystone Way, the original idea was to build a professional office park, but it was not particularly planned to be medical offices.

“The first buyer was a doctor, Dennis Thomas, and then another doctor came,” Powers said. “And the last lot a doctor bought it because of another doctor.”

“Doctors are looking for areas to be clustered together,” Durrani added.

Powers said the location on Inner Perimeter Road is nice for doctors because of its easy accessibility from all sides.

Durrani had an office on Woodrow Wilson, but according to her, it was too small for her employees and patients. She needed bigger reception space where patients can sit away from each other. The new building also allowed her to have a separate allergy shot area which is a huge convenience for patients. Each room has a TV for educational purposes while patients are waiting.

The builder of her office, Derek Shaw, explained that since they are working under The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, the walls are sound proof to protect the patients’ information. The one-story building is handicapped accessible.

Dennis Thomas, family medicine, was the first doctor to buy a lot at Greystone Way six years ago. He was able to design the building the way he wanted it and make it very functional. Thomas was convinced that the area would attract a lot of doctors because of its centralized location, and was right.

“I thought a lot of doctors will come here,” he said. “People from outside Valdosta who come to shop at Walmart, can visit the physicians here,” he said. “Also, there is a residential complex very close to us.”

Before Greystone, Thomas was on staff at both South Georgia Medical Center and Smith Northview Hospital and was leasing an office. When the lease was up, he wanted to buy a new place, so in January 2003 the construction of his office started and was finished by April. Currently, he is on staff at Smith Northview Hospital, which is very close to his office, and his house is in short distance from Greystone as well. He said he is pleased to be surrounded by other doctors’ offices.

“My office used to be the only one here, and there was nothing else around,” he noted.

Farquhar is another doctor who recently moved to Greystone because of the great benefits from the location.
