VALDOSTA — A new business has something to cheer about.
Winnersville Elite Cheer and Dance, located at 1874 Business Parkway across from Sam’s Club, will offer an All-Star cheerleading competition team and children’s activity night.
The Carolina Shag, Swing dancing, Cha-cha, and Line dancing are just a few of the classes to be offered as well when the business opens Tuesday, Sept. 9.
“The future of our own daughters is what really motivated us,” said owners Susan Colson and Barbara Holly of Winnersville Elite.
“They really just needed a place to practice, and it wasn’t just them. So many people love cheering and need a place that will train them properly. We will go all the way in assisting those students to the collegiate level.”
Winnersville Eilte, a fully functioning 11,000-square-foot cheer and dance gymnasium, is well-equipped with four air conditioning units to beat the South Georgia heat, a 40-foot in-ground trampoline to assist students with tumbling, and certified instructors who have the interest of the student’s growth at heart, the owners said.
The facility will be the first in Valdosta to include the underground trampoline foam pits with a 1,700-square-foot waiting area which includes games and television for parents and children waiting.
Instructors will include Dante Tennant of Valdosta State University as head cheer and tumbling coach and Kelli Fields of VSU’s Red Hots as head dance coach. Fields has worked with the VSU Red Hots for three years and is certified in all levels of dancing as well as Dance Education of America certified.
“This will be a full-function dance facility — everything you can possibly imagine in one space,” Fields said.
“We are the only competitive dance studio in Valdosta, Georgia, and it doesn’t get any better than that.”
The owners said they were inspired by South Georgia’s need to foster the growth of children in order to create men and women who will follow their aspirations.
“I wanted to give Lowndes County and the surrounding areas real experience and the chance to be taught the technicalities,” Holly said.
Winnersville owners said they are planning to implement a new program within Valdosta High School, Cheernastics, which will consist of students receiving academic credit by taking a course offered by Winnersville through the Valdosta City School System. Students will be bused over to Winnersville during their scheduled class time. The overall goal of this is to get the community involved while teaching students to be appreciative of their talents and careers, the owners said.
Winnersville Elite has a job opening for an assistant cheer coach.
The applicant will undergo a background check. Prior to filling out an application, first aid and CPR certification are required.
