Business This Week: Moody homes on right track
By Kay Harris
The Valdosta Daily Times
Great news, hopefully, this week that the Moody housing project has a potential new owner.
The Hunt Pinnacle Group signed a letter of intent this week to purchase the Moody housing and other base housing sites left uncompleted by Carabetta, and a formal purchase should take place in the next month or so.
Maybe, just maybe, this will finally signal the end of more than a year of heartache for all the local subcontractors who have been suffering from lack of payment.
Kudos to Kingston and Chambliss especially for taking so much time trying to work with the Air Force, but I still think there needs to be more accountability for everything that transpired.
We’ll keep you posted about it.
Business Roundup
I found out this week why Peaches is closed, if anyone is interested. With the massive city land annexation up Bemiss Road, the property is coming into the city.
However, the city has an ordinance against serving alcohol in establishments that offer certain types of adult entertainment, so apparently the property owner is looking to redevelop the site and potentially put in a small restaurant or retail business.
I’ve had several questions this week about the annexation, and apparently when the businesses in that stretch of Bemiss were built, they wanted city water and agreed to annex as a condition.
It looks like Dr. Nelson Clements is expanding his dental practice on North Patterson Street across from the hospital.
There is a lot of land clearing going on near Girardins on North Valdosta Road, but don’t know if it’s just site prep for potential development or if there’s a buyer.
Next to Girardins, there is a new dermatologist office opening.
There is a new countertop business that opened on Hwy. 84 called Set in Stone.
In the Baytree Plaza near Quiznos there is a new store called Moms 2 Bee Maternity & More. (Yes, that’s spelled right ... she’s doing a bumble bee theme). The store was supposed to open in March, but the inside has just been completed and she should be opening in the next week or two.
