Update: Brooks High football players killed in wreck

VALDOSTA — Brooks County Sheriff Mike Dewey confirmed this morning that three people were killed in a car wreck north of Quitman. A fourth person has been reportedly life-flighted from the scene to Shands Hospital.

The four are Brooks High School football players. They have been identified as Jicarre Watkins, Johnny Parker and Shawn Waters as killed in the wreck, and De'Vron Whitfield has been identified as the teenager airlifted to Shands Hospital.

The single-vehicle wreck occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Webster Road, near the high school, according to initial reports. Brooks deputies and the Georgia State Patrol are working the scene. The teens were reportedly traveling to a morning football practice when the wreck occurred.

Brooks County Schools has announced that a prayer vigil is scheduled for 6 p.m. today, Brooks High School cafeteria. The Brooks County school board has also cancelled its scheduled meeting for this evening.
