Division II title game sparks friendly mayoral competition

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA — Saturday’s Division II National Championship Game, where the Valdosta State Blazers will face the Winston-Salem State Rams in Florence, Ala., has sparked a friendly competition between the mayors of each city.

Valdosta Mayor John Gayle and Winston-Salem Mayor Allen Joines have wagered a friendly bet on behalf of their city’s teams. If the Blazers win the championship, Gayle will receive a box of doughnuts and some Texas Pete Hot Sauce from the Winston-Salem mayor. If the Rams win Saturday’s game, Joines will be receiving a gift box of South Georgia Pecans.

Both mayors have expressed their best wishes for all players to play safe and show good sportsmanship throughout the game.
