VALDOSTA — The Valdosta State football team could be in the process of losing its second coach this offseason. Co-defensive coordinator/defensive line coach Earl Chambers confirmed to The Valdosta Daily Times Tuesday afternoon that he interviewed for the defensive line position at Georgia Southern University in Statesboro. reported earlier on Tuesday that Chambers had been hired as the new defensive line coach for the Eagles. But, Chamber said that was not yet the case.

"That is not confirmed yet," Chambers said. "At this moment it is not confirmed. Give it is some time. I did interview for the job, but nothing is official."

If Chambers does leave for Georgia Southern, he will become the second coach this offseason that has left for a coaching job at a Division I-FCS program. Offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Robby Brown was hired as the offensive coordinator at Northwestern State (La.) just weeks after the Blazers' 35-7 win over Winston-Salem State in the Division II national championship game.

Chambers joined the Valdosta State coaching staff in 2005 and stayed on staff in 2007 when David Dean was promoted to head coach. Chambers was named co-defensive coordinator prior to the 2011 season, a title he shared with defensive backs coach Seth Wallace.

On the Valdosta State coaching staff, Chambers helped guide the Blazers to a pair of national championship victories — in 2007 and 2012.

Prior to coaching at Valdosta State, Chambers was a graduate assistant coach at the University of Georgia, where he also played in the 1990's.
