Volleyball Picks Up Another GSC Win Over UNA

VALDOSTA — Valdosta State picked up their fourth straight victory and their second straight Gulf South Conference win on Saturday, as they defeated conference rival North Alabama 3-1 to move to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in GSC play.

Similar to Friday night's contest against Huntsville, Valdosta State fell in the opening set 25-17, but the Blazers found their stride in the next three sets (20-25, 25-22, and 25-17) to remain undefeated against conference opponents.

The Blazers delivered a balance offense in the match with Ashley Lala, Destiny Berry, and Jenna Kirkwood all hitting over .300 on the day.

Kirkwood led the team in kills with 14 while also delivering a season best 16 digs in the contest.

Jessica Codato kept the Blazers in control throughout the afternoon, dishing out 40 assists and 14 digs, and Lelalelei Nomura also contributed offensively with 11 kills.

As a team the Blazers belted 53 kills in 147 attempts with only 19 errors, which was good for a .231 hitting percentage. The team also tallied 64 total digs and 11 blocks in the match.

Megan Gorey served as the leading hitter for the Lions with 16 kills in 38 attempts for a .395 percentage, but received little support offensively as the only hitter above .200 on the afternoon.

The Blazers will continue conference play on the road this Tuesday in Livingston, Ala. as they face West Alabama.

The match is scheduled for a 8 p.m. EST start time.
