Beyond Sports Network releases 2014 preseason All-GSC football team

VALDOSTA — Football season is right around the corner; exactly 57 days from now Valdosta State set to open its season at home against Albany State, but fans were able to satisfy his or her football withdraws on Tuesday when Beyond Sports Network released its Gulf South Conference preseason All-Conference team.

Less than a month before the official All-Conference teams are released, BSN named three Blazers to the team of 31: running back Cedric O'Neal, offensive lineman Felei Tauvae, and punter Dominic Demasi.

O'Neal was recognized as the GSC Offensive Freshman of the Year in his first season in 2012 and the 5'11, 203 pound back hasn't slowed down since. O'Neal rushed for 975 yards and six touchdowns in 10 games last season, earning a third team All-Super Region 2 selection along the way.

After just two seasons, O'Neal ranks fifth in school history in rushing touchdowns with 20, and sixth in rushing yardage with 2173.

Tauvae is a massive, 355 pound guard hailing from the American Samoa who arrived at VSU last year and immediately locked down a starting gig. In 2013, Tauvae's junior season, he tallied a team best 32 knockdowns and allowed just 2.5 hits on quarterback in 10 games.

VSU's final All-GSC member, Demasi, has garnered attention lately due to his arm — he was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 31st round of the MLB draft — but the junior averaged just under 40 yards per punt over 47 attempts, including a long of 63 yards against Angelo State Sept. 28.

Six of seven GSC teams were represented on BSN's All-Conference team, Shorter being the only school without a player on the preseason list after a tough 2-9 season.

Of the schools represented, VSU's three players are the second-fewest of any GSC team. North Alabama, the reigning conference champion, had the fewest players on the team with just two players receiving recognition.

Delta State featured the most players on the preseason All-GSC team with 10.
