VALDOSTA —  Valdosta State baseball and softball fans will get a chance to get an upclose and personal meet-and-greet with this year’s teams, along with supporting the storied programs when the teams host their first annual Diamond Dinner Jan. 19.

The event will be held in the University Ballroom in the Valdosta State University Student Union.

The event will include both live and silent auctions, as well as featured speaker, Major League Baseball umpire Sam Holbrook. The event is set to begin at 5:30 p.m., with a social hour and a chance to mingle with players and coaches from both programs. The cost is $40.

The silent auction bidding will also open during the social hour, which will include complimentary hors d’oeuvres and tickets for cocktails. The live auction will follow the dinner and program.

Silent auction items include autographs from: Washington Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman, 2006 World Series MVP David Eckstein, 2012 Oakland A’s member, and former Lowndes Viking, Stephen Drew, ‘Field of Dreams’ star Kevin Costner and ‘The Natural’ star Robert Redford.

Among the items open for bid during the live action include: a guided turkey hunt, a weekend pass (with pit access) to the 2013 Daytona 500, a Buster Posey — the 2012 National League MVP — signed jersey and Jewelry from Steel’s Jewelry.

Holbrook, the featured speaker, is a 12-year veteran umpire of Major League Baseball.

He has worked the 2004 All-Star game, three Division Series (2005, 2007 and 2010), four League Championship Series (2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012) and the 2010
