Dozier was one of the speakers at the Georgia Forestry Association Regional Meeting at Kinderlou Forest’s Ravine Grille Tuesday evening.

More than 320 private and industrial landowners were affected by the wildfires, with a loss of $58 million in timber and a cost to reforest estimated at $30 million. Dozier warned that the fall fire season may be bad as well in the dry area of the state from Bainbridge to Rome.

According to Dozier, the GFA is planning a Firefighter Appreciation Day on Aug. 25 in Waycross. “The forest rangers and industry men were the ones on the front line. We are so lucky that no one was hurt or killed.”
