Coral Reefs win district swim title
First-year team earns 1,123 points to win district

VALDOSTA — The Stone Creek Coral Reefs swim team, representing the Valdosta-Lowndes County Recreation and Parks Department, won the District 3, Class A championship on July 8 in Tifton.

Stone Creek had 32 swimmers accumulate 1,123 points to edge the Columbus Hurricanes by six points. The Valdosta YMCA swim team was third, with 336 points, and the Albany YMCA took fourth with 139 points.

Each swimmer had to place in the top three of their event to qualify for state, which will be held July 21-22 in Marietta. Stone Creek had 27 swimmers qualify in their individual events, and 19 of them will make the trip to Marietta to compete in the state meet.

Stone Creek had nine swimmers win individual district titles. Drew Bradshaw won district in the 100-yard IM and 25-yard backstroke. Brandy Eby won the 100-yard IM and the 50-yard butterfly. Shannon Eby won the 50-yard breaststroke and the 50-yard butterfly. Colin Kirkpatrick won the 50-yard freestyle and the 50-yard backstroke. Madison Carter was first in the 25-yard breaststroke and third in the 25-yard backstroke. Avery Kolisz won the 25-yard breaststroke and also was second in the 25-yard freestyle.

One family had three district champions. Travis McCarty won the 25-yard freestyle and 25-yard breaststroke, Cole McCarty won the 50-yard breaststroke and was second in the 50-yard freestyle, and Grant McCarty won the 50-yard breaststroke and took third in the 50-yard freestyle.

Also, Ryan Bradshaw took second in the 25-yard breaststroke and third in the 25-yard freestyle. Abigail Carter took second in the 25-yard breaststroke. Colby DeCesare was third in the 25-yard breaststroke. Taylor Grantham was second in the 25-yard breaststroke and third in the 25-yard butterfly. Claire Kirkpatrick was third in the 50-yard freestyle. Selena Mata was second in the 50-yard butterfly. Cortney Prichard was second in the 50-yard butterfly and third in the 50-yard freestyle. Halsey Prichard took third in the 25-yard freestyle, while Kaleb Prichard was second in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 50-yard breaststroke. Kathryn Wurst was third in the 25-yard breaststroke.
