VSU ROTC cadet wins national scholarship

The Valdosta Daily Times

VALDOSTA, Ga.

Valdosta State University ROTC cadet Ryan Chapman recently won the Joan Bowden Memorial Scholarship from the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association.

Chapman, a sophomore majoring in physics, was one of two VSU nominees and 288 nominees from detachments across the country to compete nationally for the scholarship, which is awarded based on grade point average, physical fitness and leadership skills.

Possessing a high GPA and qualities like high moral character, outstanding leadership capabilities and top-notch physical fitness, Chapman will receive this one-time $3,000 scholarship to assist him with the cost of his studies.

The mission of Air Force ROTC is to develop future leaders for tomorrow’s Air Force. The program is open to all accredited majors and scholarships are available.

Program graduates receive knowledge, leadership skills and quality education before entering the Air Force as an officer. For more information on VSU’s Air Force ROTC program and Detachment 172, visit www.valdosta.edu/afrotc or contact Capt. Paul McArtor at (229) 333-5954.
