An earthen berm stands between Valdosta’s wastewater treatment facility and the nearby Withlacoochee River. The City of Valdosta’s Withlacoochee Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), also referred to as the Withlacoochee Pollution Control Plant, was built in the late 1970s, and less than a decade after its construction, the facility began experiencing problems handling the amount of water coming to it during periods of extended rainfall.
