Officers lead 54-year-old Ivan Sumlin of Cecil to a waiting squad car after responding to a robbery attempt at Southeastern Federal Credit Union on North Valdosta Road Friday, according to the police chief. Sumlin allegedly passed a robbery note to a credit union employee, Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress said. Police arrived on the scene around 5:45 p.m. and found Sumlin still inside the business before taking him into custody, Childress said. Sumlin told police that the note was a just a joke, he said. Sumlin was taken to the Valdosta Police Department to face pending robbery charges, the chief said. No employees or customers inside the building were injured during the incident, said Childress.
